In addition to running your anti-virus, I suggest you download Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S%26amp;D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If they don't seem to be able to get rid of everything they report finding, try running them again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode prevents many instances of malware from loading and protecting itself against deletion of its files.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. You may have to log in as Administrator to delete the bad files. Administrator often has no password.

5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Update and run both regularly, along with a good anti-virus package.

Good luck.

VIRUS REMOVAL STEPS:

this will be long, tedious and frustrating but it needs doing step by step

XP:

most nasties are set to reside in your restore system. clean them out and forget to close SYSTEM RESTORE BEFORE you start clean up and they return when you reboot.

do this while OFFLINE!

start--all programs--accessories--system tools--system restore--settings--drive [ c ]--setting

check off and while there,click--hold--drag slider to 5% and recover 10% hard drive memory

control panel--internet options--general

delete:

cookies--history [ and set days to keep to 0 ]--delete temp internet files

privacy tab:

advanced--override--allow session,allow 1st party--BLOCK 3rd party [ spyware/tracking ] cookies

Recycle Bin

click on recycle bin and empty it

right click recycle bin--select properties--drag slider to 3% to recover 10% R.A.M. or disk drive memory.

Disk Clean:

all programs--accessories--system tools--disk clean [ and later disk defrag ]

choose DISK DRIVE [ C ] to clean,wait,click ok [ twice ]

now go back and do disk defrag [ select analyze--run or ok ]

Empty Prefetch Folder

my computer--local disk drive [ c ]--windows--prefetch

select file--choose select all--press delete key on keyboard

now--IF you have any protective programs [ anti-virus--anti-spyware ] installed,NOW is the time to run those.

should you NOT have ANY protection programs installed:

Avast--anti-virus

AD Aware--anti-spyware

Rootkit Revealer--anti-rootkit

PC Tools Firewall--firewall to replace MS's deficient firewall [ turn that sucker OOF ! ] and replace with above.

once you are clean, return to sytem restore and turn it back on [ reverse above instructions ].

choose to create a new restore point, name it and you're done!

Vista:

vista is a bit different, yet almost the same.

getting to internet options is the same,so look at the instructions for what to do with XP above

disable system restore:

right click computer on start page list--select properties--select system protection--uncheck os [ c ]

REMEMBER TO RESET SYSTEM RESTORE AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH VIRUS CLEAN UP AND CREATE NEW RESTORE POINT !

disk clean %26amp; defrag

control panel--perfromance,information %26amp; tools--click disk clean up

select drive [ c ]--ok--okclick delete files

disk defrag is on the same page along with disk clean except it's called advanced tools

see XP instructions on what to do--when

again,just like XP,run your anti-virus--anti-spyware cleaners

you can get what you need for protection programs from here

Have you been running your Antivirus program?

Now you know why you should have one.........

Invalid Backweb Application

When I log on to Windows, I get runner error "invalid backweb application, id 137903", how do i fix this?.

You have downloaded a program that contains spyware or adware. The spyware or adware has been removed but the program requires the spyware to be installed in order to run, without it you will get the Run Time error. This program runs on startup so you will have to uninstall the program that had the spyware associated with it. Run Msconfig from the Start %26gt; Run window and turn off the progam that you downloaded, or uninstall the program.

If you still cannot find the program do a search for files that contain the word "Backweb"
